Job Summary

The Geology Technician is a vital role within our mining operation. This position provides essential support to the geology team through task allocation and resource management as prioritized and directed by senior staff.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform various tasks related to open pit operations as required.
  • Execute field-based QAQC mass balance test work programs, including sampling, data recording, and laboratory submission.
  • Carry out core yard duties to meet objectives and deliverables, encompassing core orientation, magnetic susceptibility testing, specific gravity measurements, hardness testing, photography of drill core, and geological assessments.
  • Conduct core cutting and sampling while adhering to QAQC protocols.
  • Prioritize and manage sample preparation for on-site laboratory analysis, including core crushing, splitting, scanning, and dispatch order creation.
  • Collaborate with other departments as directed by senior staff.
  • Maintain inventory records of consumables and supplies.
  • Ensure availability of necessary materials, including pre-numbered bags, for drill contractors and the laboratory.
  • Operate computers, generate, update, and maintain geological data files.
  • Manage equipment related to geological requirements.
  • Install and retrieve Blast Monitors or Blast Vector Indicators (BVI) for blast monitoring activities when requested.
  • Prepare samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Assist in maintaining pulp, chip tray, and core library catalogues.

Key Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in core yard activities and familiarity with open pit mining environments.
  • Familiarity with computer software, particularly Microsoft Windows applications.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Dedication to safety protocols.
  • Able to establish and maintain working relationships across diverse AngloGold Ashanti personnel, consultants, and contractors.
