About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Corporate Counsel to join our in-house legal team as a Data Protection Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work on brand new project initiatives and be part of a dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice on data privacy laws, particularly concerning data commercialisation initiatives.
  • Develop and implement data protection strategies aligned with our organisational goals.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate data-sharing agreements, privacy policies, and other related documents.
  • Advise on the legal aspects of new data-driven products and services, ensuring compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other regulations.
  • Monitor changes in data protection laws and adjust practices accordingly.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify and mitigate privacy risks.
  • Represent the organisation in discussions with regulatory authorities and partners on data privacy issues.
  • Partner with other business areas and provide holistic legal advice to support on-going initiatives.
Requirements
  • Unrestricted Victorian Legal Practicing Certificate
  • Tertiary Legal qualification
  • 8 years minimum PQE
  • Strong knowledge of global data privacy laws - Privacy & Data Protection Act 2014 (Victoria) and Privacy Act 1988.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex data-sharing agreements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to balance legal risks and business opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
