Job Title: Environmental and Heritage Advisor

This is a challenging role that requires an experienced ecologist to manage environmental and heritage risks across rail infrastructure projects.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying environmental risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • They will conduct ecological assessments and targeted flora/fauna surveys, prepare and submit permit applications, and develop EMS documentation.
  • Additionally, the ecologist will provide technical advice on vegetation management and fire prevention, attend site inspections, and verify clean-up and compliance.
  • They will also prepare ecological reports and investigation findings, deliver ecological awareness training, and improve environmental understanding across teams.
  • Liaising with regulators and identifying permitting pathways for rail works will be a key aspect of this role.

This position offers a great mix of office and fieldwork with travel across regional Victoria, presenting opportunities for professional growth and development.


Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental consulting, ecology, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with ecological assessments, species identification, and habitat assessment.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, including EPBC Act and state-based environment protection policies.
