About the Role
The Central Sterilising Department at Mercy Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instrument Technician to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for the checking in and out of loan instruments, cleaning, disinfecting, packing, sterilizing and storage of all reusable medical instruments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily tasks related to the sterilisation and processing of medical instruments, including cleaning, disinfecting, and packaging.
- Operate and maintain medical equipment, including autoclaves and sterilisers.
- Ensure all instruments are properly labelled and stored in a clean and organised manner.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless operation of the Central Sterilising Department.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
Requirements
- Certificate IV in Health - Sterilising Practice for Technicians or equivalent.
- Sound understanding of the recommended guidelines and standards of AS 5369:2023.
- Clinical practice and experience in all areas of cleaning, disinfection, sterilisation and processing loan instruments within a hospital CSD.
- Knowledge and experience in reprocessing flexible endoscopes highly desirable.
- Effective and appropriate patterns of communication within a multidisciplinary team.
