About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Urban Designer to join our Planning and Design business unit. In this role, you will lead and shape the future of urban design in Cardinia Shire, creating meaningful change in our community through innovative and strategic solutions.

  • You will manage and assist in the preparation and implementation of precinct structure plans, activity centre structure plans, township strategies, development plans, urban design frameworks, policies and strategies.
  • Liaise with and provide expert advice and recommendations to the community, developers, government agencies and other Council departments to optimise urban design and built form outcomes on proposed development applications and strategic policies.
  • Coordinating urban design outcomes by undertaking urban design analysis, site analysis, development feasibility studies, preparation of plans, policies, strategies, frameworks, guidelines and referrals.
  • Leading and mentoring less experienced staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in urban design, architecture or a related field.
  • Substantial experience in urban design and architecture, with a strong track record in project management.
  • A deep understanding of economic, social, and environmental issues related to development and urban design in Cardinia Shire.
  • The ability to assess and critique architectural and urban design work, providing creative and practical solutions.
  • Strategic thinking and creativity to plan for high-quality land use, development, and design outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
