Aerospace Medicine Specialist Job

As an Aerospace Medicine Specialist, you will provide primary care for pilots and crew members traveling in air or space.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Medical Examinations: Conduct thorough medical examinations to ensure the health and fitness of air and missile crews.
  • Fitness for Flying: Determine whether individuals are fit for flying and special duties, evaluating living and working environments to detect and control health hazards.
  • Aeromedical Issues: Regularly participate in flying missions to observe and advise on aeromedical issues.
  • Preventive Medicine Programs: Develop and manage preventive medicine programs, educating flight personnel in healthy lifestyles.
  • Casualty Management: Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters.
  • Aeromedical Evacuation: Provide advice on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards.
  • Liaison Role: Serve as the liaison between flying squadrons and medical services.
Qualifications:
  • Medical Degree: Hold a MD or DO degree from an accredited program.
  • Residency Program: Completed a residency at a fully accredited residency program in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
  • Primary Care Medicine: Proficient in adult primary care medicine.
  • Aerospace Medicine Course: Completion of a primary course in aerospace medicine.
  • Licensure: Hold a current, active, permanent, and unrestricted license to practice medicine.
  • Aeronautical Rating: Possess an aeronautical rating of Flight Surgeon, Senior Flight Surgeon, or Chief Flight Surgeon.
  • Experience: Minimum 12 months of experience as a flight surgeon.
  • Board Eligibility: Board eligible in Aerospace Medicine.
  • Commissioned Officer Training: Completion of Commissioned Officer training course.
  • Citizenship: US citizen between 18 and 47 years old.
  • Relocation: Willing to relocate.
