Job Opportunity: Financial Accounting Expertise

This role entails providing authoritative advice on accounting treatment and reporting options for transactions entered into by the department. As a key contributor, you will lead the delivery of components of the department's annual financial report and other reporting requirements.

About the Role
  • Close collaboration with colleagues within the finance division and other stakeholders including DTf and VAGO is essential.
  • The team operates in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift rapidly.

This position requires adaptability to respond to changing priorities while navigating complex relationships and competing priorities.

Key Selection Criteria
  • Strong project management skills are necessary to define tasks, coordinate efforts, and ensure timely completion to agreed standards.
  • Clear communication is critical, enabling structured presentations and tailored messaging to different audiences.
  • Technical expertise in financial accounting and operations is also required.

Expertise includes interpreting legislation, accounting policies, and guidelines to ensure statutory reporting compliance. Additionally, you will provide financial insights and support decision-making through reliable data analysis.

Accountabilities
  • Month-end tasks and preparation of financial reports require clear variance analysis and commentary for management and key stakeholders.
  • Contribution to compliance with the Financial Management Act and related legislation involves preparing the department's annual financial report and managing relationships with VAGO and central agencies.

Responsibilities also include advising on complex matters, preparing briefs for senior management, and enhancing the effectiveness and capability of the finance division.

A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting is essential, and full membership of either CPA Australia or CA Australia & New Zealand is desirable.
