The Department of Industry, Science and Resources is seeking a highly skilled Mining Engineer to join our team at the Australian Radioactive Waste Agency. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in guiding the development of a multi-decadal program to dispose of Australia's radioactive waste.
Key Responsibilities- Lead subsurface mining aspects of radioactive waste geological disposal concepts, including supporting the management of research contracts.
- Contribute scientific and technical expertise to the evaluation of geological disposal facilities and other subsurface geological disposal concepts.
- Develop and implement research scopes and plans related to subsurface repositories.
- Extensive experience in subsurface excavation engineering in underground mining or related geoscientific or mining fields, preferably in environments where radiation is a concern.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide sound advice and prepare written reports and briefings.
- Ability to model a workplace culture that embraces safety and security, is collaborative and inclusive.
- Be an Australian citizen or in the process of obtaining Australian Citizenship before commencement.
- Undertake a pre-employment security assessment and subsequent security clearance.
- Be medically fit to undertake the duties of the job.
- Intrastate and interstate travel, including overnight stays, may be required.
