Job Opportunity: Environmental Planning Expert

The City of Melton is seeking a skilled Environmental Planner to join our Natural Environment team.

This role involves providing high quality environmental planning advice and responses, utilising knowledge of biodiversity and the Victoria Planning Provisions (VPP).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assess statutory planning referrals, strategic planning initiatives and other relevant documents to provide timely environmental planning responses.
  • Offer specialist technical advice and education to internal and external stakeholders on environmental management, native vegetation and biodiversity.
  • Liaise with Commonwealth and State government agencies, non-government agencies, developers, and the community on environmental planning issues.
  • Support compliance investigations, conduct site inspections, provide expert advice and represent Council at VCAT and panel hearings on environmental compliance matters.
  • Monitor and report on Council's performance relating to biodiversity, the natural environment and environmental planning matters.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A tertiary qualification in conservation, natural resource management, environmental science or related field.
  • Substantial environmental planning experience in a growth area.
  • Highly developed biodiversity and native vegetation knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
