About Health, Safety & Environment and Your Role

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) team ensures safe working environments for all THG employees and visitors. The team provides on-site support to manage risks promptly, completes audits and checks to meet health & safety legislative requirements, and achieves environmental compliance to prevent financial and reputational damage.

The HSE Advisor reports to the THG site lead and Group Director of HSE. Day-to-day, the HSE Advisor collaborates with site management. The role is accountable for providing competent HSE support to core site activities.

The HSE Advisor will provide on-site support to ensure timely risk management, complete audits and checks to meet health & safety legislative requirements, and achieve environmental compliance to prevent litigation, financial penalties, and reputational damage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop site-specific HSE strategies, programmes, and plans
  • Proactively monitor and challenge standards to promote continuous improvement. Support environmental management matters such as environmental impact assessments, investigations, etc., and compliance with environmental legislation
  • Perform regular Health, Safety & Environment audits and inspections;
  • Relay findings back to the HSE Central Management and local management teams
  • Implement immediate corrective actions and oversee further preventative and corrective actions to eliminate root causes
  • Advise and support colleagues on their statutory duties within their areas of responsibility
  • Assist in developing the company HSE Management system
  • Involvement in contractor vetting and other contractor management processes, including reviewing risk assessments/method statements and issuing permits to work
  • Assist in developing and implementing HSE policies and procedures
  • Assist with accident/incident investigation, root cause analysis, and reporting for corrective actions
  • Conduct and review chemical assessments
  • Assist in the fire risk assessment process

Requirements:

  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification at Diploma level or equivalent as a minimum
  • At least 3 years' experience in occupational safety and health support and management
  • Good communication skills and ability to influence change
  • Good working knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental Regulations
  • Previous experience in warehousing or manufacturing
  • Keen problem solver
  • Adaptable
  • Good IT skills
  • Environmental qualification desirable
