Lead Financial Strategist Role

A key leadership position is available for a skilled and strategic financial controller to lead our finance function and support our mission. This exciting opportunity enables you to work in a values-driven organisation where your work directly contributes to community outcomes.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager, the successful candidate will oversee budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, and compliance across the organisation. You'll lead a small, capable finance team while partnering with senior stakeholders to ensure financial sustainability and support data-informed decision making.

This role is ideal for a dynamic finance leader who thrives in an operational, hands-on environment and is ready to shape the future of community education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and end-to-end financial reporting (P&L, cash flow, variance analysis)
  • Ensure financial compliance across payroll, grant funding, and audit readiness
  • Provide strategic financial advice to senior leadership and the Board
  • Develop and present monthly financial reporting packs and analysis for the SLT and Board
  • Advise on financial risk, sustainability, and strategic investments to support the college's mission and growth
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting, cost allocation and workforce planning models
  • Drive systems improvements and automation (Sage, Excel)
  • Collaborate with auditors, funding bodies, and regulators

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • CA / CPA qualified (MBA or postgraduate qualification highly regarded)
  • 8–10+ years' experience in accounting / finance, including in leadership roles
  • Strong knowledge of financial operations, compliance, and reporting
  • Experience with payroll systems, funding acquittals, and cost modelling
  • Advanced Excel skills; Sage or aXcelerate experience desirable
