Family Support Specialist

We aim to create a safe environment for children and young people by empowering their families. Our top priority is ensuring the well-being, safety and protection of vulnerable individuals.

In this role, you will respond to reports about potential harm surrounding children or young people who may have been affected.

  • Work collaboratively and sensitively with parents, family members, children or young people
  • Engage in effective problem-solving and collaboration with other agencies
  • Assist families in developing tailored plans that address their needs, addressing safety and well-being concerns, and provide appropriate support through home visits
  • Develop and implement safety protocols and complete risk assessments
  • Manage complex cases and situations including working with high-needs and high-risk clients and their families
  • Be involved in court processes, including the preparation of court documents and attending court proceedings

This role requires resilience and empathy when making tough decisions to help families overcome adversity and establish safe and nurturing environments.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Preferred: Completed or nearing completion of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Social Science or Welfare along with practical experience.
  • Other relevant degrees are considered if you demonstrate knowledge, skills and experience working with vulnerable children, young people and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build strong relationships.
  • A valid driver's licence (P1 or above).
  • A current paid working with children clearance number.
