The role is responsible for providing scientific leadership and management in a Forensic Biology environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage case flow and scientific analyses efficiently while meeting stakeholder expectations and organisational objectives.
  • Ensure resources are managed effectively in accordance with approved business and strategic plans.
  • Lead the management, professional policy development and strategic direction of the Forensic Biology section.
  • Regularly review and improve forensic biology/DNA professional work policies, practices and procedures in accordance with NATA accreditation, international standards of best practice and legislative requirements.
  • Implement recommendations into DNA testing that relate to operational activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications

A bachelor degree or higher in medical science, forensic science, applied science or a relevant field from a recognised tertiary institution is essential.

The successful candidate will also need to have demonstrated experience in the leadership and management of employees in a forensic scientific environment.

Proven expertise in conducting and self-managing forensic casework, including complex cases, is required.

A strong ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction to ensure positive outcomes is essential.

Competence in forensic scientific and laboratory practice, as well as experience in developing, implementing and reviewing policies and procedures, will be necessary.

Working knowledge of NATA's forensic accreditation requirements is also required.
