The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Directorate is responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy working environment, fostering a culture that integrates safety and health risk management into all operational planning and activities. We operate within the context of the Western Australia Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act.

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Health Specialist to join our team and contribute to the development of injury prevention and management services for the University and its affiliates. As an expert in your field, you will provide guidance and advice on health, safety, and wellbeing matters, utilising your specific competencies in areas such as manual handling, mental health, psychosocial risk factors, and ergonomics.

About the Opportunity

This full-time appointment offers a permanent/ongoing basis with a base salary range: $100,524 – $111,534 p.a. plus 17% superannuation. You will work closely with management of Faculties/Units to plan, develop, and maintain injury prevention and management systems, develop, review, and promote health, safety, and wellbeing policies, procedures, and guidelines, and conduct investigations and follow up on reported hazards, incidents, and injuries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with management of Faculties/Units to plan, develop, and maintain injury prevention and management systems.
  • Develop, review, and promote health, safety, and wellbeing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Provide professional advice and training in areas including manual handling, mental health, workplace health and wellbeing, psychosocial risk management, and ergonomics.
  • Conduct investigations and follow up on reported hazards, incidents, and injuries.
  • Manage Workers' Compensation claims and coordinate return-to-work programs.
  • Provide case management services for injured or unwell employees with physical or psychological conditions.
About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate relevant tertiary qualification in an allied health profession (e.g., Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation Counselling) and professional registration with AHPRA, ASORC, ESSA or other suitable allied health governing body.

You will also possess sound knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health, Workers' Compensation, and Disability legislation, extensive experience managing injuries and workers' compensation claims, covering both physical and psychological conditions, and experience providing guidance and advice on injury prevention, wellbeing strategies, workplace modifications, and health accommodations.
