Design Lead for Modular Construction

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Architectural Technician to lead design excellence in our fast-paced, modular construction environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as the bridge between concept and construction, translating client vision into buildable, commercially viable solutions that push the boundaries of design.

The ideal candidate will thrive on complexity, collaboration, and creativity, working closely with internal teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver high-value Design & Construct (D&C) projects across education and commercial sectors.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee internal and external design teams to ensure alignment with project vision, buildability, and compliance
  • Coordinate with engineering, services, and construction teams to deliver fully integrated design solutions
  • Act as the architectural lead in client meetings, workshops, and design reviews
  • Ensure all designs meet Australian Standards, BCA, planning requirements, and WHS regulations
  • Manage design risks and proactively resolve conflicts between design intent, cost, and construction methodology
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, cost planning, and tender submissions
  • Support innovation and champion modular design excellence across every stage of delivery
  • Maintain quality assurance processes and provide technical guidance to junior team members

Requirements:

  • 3–5 years' post-graduate experience in architectural design, ideally within D&C or modular environments
  • Confidence to lead designs from concept through to construction documentation
  • Experience with BIM platforms and have a sharp eye for detail and buildability
  • A strong understanding of the Building Code of Australia planning processes and compliance requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, juggling deadlines and still delivering exceptional outcomes
  • Natural communication skills with the ability to lead client presentations, workshops, and design reviews
  • A strategic mindset who can contribute to feasibility studies, tenders, and project pitches
  • A passion for innovation, sustainability, and the future of modular construction
