The Role

NextSense is seeking a casual relief teacher with expertise in educating students who are blind or have low vision to join our team at our Macquarie site.

  • Implement learning and teaching programs using knowledge of curriculum, assessment/reporting requirements and implications of sensory loss.
  • Teach strategies that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Adjust the teaching environment to support students with sensory loss and those with additional disability.
  • Develop individual learning plans.

Our Purpose and Ambition

NextSense is a not-for-profit organisation supporting people with vision or hearing loss across Australia.

We work with children, adults, and their families, providing a holistic approach to hearing services for newborns through to people over 90 years old, and helping children who are blind or have low vision to develop the right skills, mobility, and independence.

We've been expanding our services since 1860 and deliver world-class education, cochlear implants, allied health services, therapy, research, and clinical services to children and adults.

We're a registered NDIS provider, working with our clients to achieve their own goals and potential.

To be successful in this role, you'll need to demonstrate you meet the following selection criteria.

  • Relevant degree or recognised teaching qualification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent teaching practice.
  • Experience in the education of students who are blind or have low vision.
  • A current NSW driver's licence.
  • A first aid certificate.
  • A working with children's check.
  • A criminal record check.
  • You are obliged to become familiar with, and comply with child protection policies and legislation, as amended from time to time.
