About the Role

NextSense is seeking a dedicated Deaf Education Specialist to join our team at our new Macquarie site. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in delivering world-class education to children with sensory loss.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement learning and teaching programs that cater to the needs of students with sensory loss.
  • Develop and maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the participation and learning of students with sensory loss.
  • Use current assessment data to set individual learning plans with explicit, challenging, and achievable goals for students.
  • Establish and implement inclusive and positive interactions to engage and support students with sensory loss in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Create and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment that ensures students' wellbeing and safety within school.

We work with children, adults, and their families, providing a holistic approach to hearing services for newborns through to people over 90 years old. We deliver world-class education, cochlear implants, allied health services, therapy, research, and clinical services to children and adults.

We are currently settling into our new world-leading centre for innovation on-site at Macquarie University, representing a new era for hearing and vision loss.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate your ability to meet the following selection criteria.

  • Relevant degree or recognised teaching qualification in Education of the Deaf
  • National Association of Australian Teacher of the Deaf membership
  • Native/near native Auslan signer or fluent in Auslan
  • Excellent written and verbal/signer communication skills
  • Excellent teaching practice
  • Experience in the education of students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • A current NSW driver's licence
  • A first aid certificate
  • A working with children's check
  • A criminal record check
