This is a teaching and research position based at the St Lucia campus, where you will lead in software engineering and/or cybersecurity within the CSS discipline. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge areas such as trustworthy software, binary code analysis, operating systems security, AI-assisted software testing, and DevOps.

About This Opportunity

The role offers the chance to apply generative AI and large language models (LLMs) to real-world challenges, making software more secure by design or through proactive threat detection.


Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.
  • Research: Maintain a strong record of high-impact research as a lead contributor in top-tier international journals and disciplinary publications. Initiate and lead competitive research funding applications as chief investigator. Lead the transfer of research outcomes to end-users, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

It is expected that the successful applicant will have a demonstrated capability and willingness to teach in areas within the school such as introductory and intermediate programming courses, cyber security systems, and software engineering topics.

  • A sustained record of excellence in teaching and research
