Policy Officer Role Overview

Are you passionate about shaping the future of transportation in NSW? This is an exciting opportunity to work on challenging and intellectually stimulating policy initiatives that will make a real difference to our customers and community.

We are looking for a Policy Officer to join our Strategic Policy Team, where you will undertake research and analysis, review alternatives relating to policy deliverables, and coordinate the development and implementation of policy initiatives and reforms related to transport.

As a Policy Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of policy commitments and advocate for transport interests in NSW. You will build and maintain relationships with people and groups within Transport for NSW and agencies across the NSW Government, while delivering and prioritising the team's work plan.

In this fast-paced role, you will balance and prioritise work effectively, solve problems creatively, and work collaboratively with an experienced team to improve transport outcomes for our customers and community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the transport policy team to put our customers at the centre of our decision-making
  • Research, analyse and review complex policy issues, identifying emerging issues, developing evidence-based options, and recommending solutions to resolve problems and mitigate risks
  • Work collegially in a new team environment, supporting your colleagues to deliver excellent advice and policy solutions
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the development and implementation of policies to identify issues and ensure the achievement of desired outcomes
  • Demonstrate flexibility and deliver high-quality research leading to responsive advice in a dynamic environment
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of issues affecting commuters in NSW
  • Develop timely advice, detailed briefings, resource materials, reports, correspondence and submissions on a range of complex issues
  • Build, maintain and support effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to identify and develop policy and reform solutions and to inform policy decision making
  • Proactively practice continuous improvement to ensure team, organisation and stakeholder expectations are met
  • Work in a complex policy environment and manage a diverse range of tasks at any given time and respond to emerging policy issues

What You Will Need:

  • You have a keen interest in policy with relevant tertiary and professional qualifications and/or equivalent experience
  • Ideally, you have equivalent experience delivering legislative reform and policy options within government or an understanding of how policy impacts communities and individuals
