About the Role
Mater Misericordiae Ltd's Neonatal Critical Care Unit is seeking a highly skilled Neonatal Fellow to join our team as a key clinical and leadership role. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the provision of family-centred developmental care to babies in the Neonatal Critical Care Unit, as well as to babies in other areas of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with and assist the Director of Neonatology with the provision of comprehensive neonatal services to Mater Misericordiae Ltd
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the provision of family-centred developmental care to babies in the Neonatal Critical Care Unit and other areas of the organisation
- Practice evidence-based neonatology under the supervision of a neonatologist
- Participate in ward rounds, attend neonatal outpatient clinics and attend high risk deliveries and emergencies in theatre, birthing or postnatal floors
- Maintain adequate medical records on all patients
- Supervise registrars and resident medical officers who work for the Neonatal Critical Care Unit
- Provide education, clinical teaching and mentoring for staff within Mater Misericordiae Ltd, including rotating medical officers from Queensland Children's Hospital
- Liaise and collaborate with other clinical teams across Queensland, including with teams from Queensland Children's Hospital, other neonatal intensive care units and special care nursery services
About You
To be successful in this position, you will have:
- Registration as a medical practitioner without conditions, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Undertaking or completed fellowship training in neonatal perinatal medicine or general paediatrics with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent
- Experience in providing evidence-based family-centred neonatal care
- Tertiary level registrar experience in perinatal, cardiac and surgical neonatology is desired
- Up to date knowledge of all aspects of neonatal perinatal medicine, including the use of equipment used in neonatal intensive care
- Skills in performing procedures commonly used in neonatal intensive care
- Ability to work harmoniously within a team and communicate effectively at all levels
- Ability to evaluate situations and make objective judgements and decisions
- Clinical leadership qualities
This is a unique opportunity for successful candidates to gain valuable neonatal experience in a large quaternary perinatal and surgical centre and use this as a stepping stone to training in paediatrics, neonatology or another training pathway.
