The Director of Community Services is responsible for leading the delivery of community services to the Aurukun community, fostering an environment of respect and community pride. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic leadership to the Community Services department
- Contributing to the Aurukun Shire Council management team
- Participating in budget formation and monitoring departmental performance
- Ensuring efficient and effective delivery of community services
- Pursuing the goals and objectives of the Aurukun Shire Council's 5-year Corporate Plan
- Providing timely reports to the Council and CEO
- Monitoring staff performance and promoting a positive culture of staff development and support
- Developing and maintaining constructive relations with government and non-government agencies
- Ensuring compliance with Council policies and model behavior
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A broad senior management background
- A strategic focus and demonstrated track record in values-based leadership
- Demonstrated capability to oversee key aspects of Community Services functions
- Experience in budgeting, financial management, and reporting
- A passion for making a positive difference and influencing community outcomes
- An open unrestricted Car (Manual) driver's license
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Recognised tertiary qualifications relevant to the role
- Demonstrated experience in delivering and managing community services at a community level, particularly in an Aboriginal community
- Experience in successfully communicating, negotiating, and interacting with Aboriginal people and demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal culture and customs
- Proven ability to develop effective and inclusive relations with Indigenous and/or diverse communities and stakeholder groups
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement and ability to engage a wide cross-section of the community
- A positive and proactive approach to resolving community issues with innovative and imaginative solutions
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams to achieve agreed outcomes and performance to high standard
The successful candidate will enjoy:
- A salary of between $155,000 and $185,000 pa plus superannuation
- Subsidised accommodation provided
- 5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% Leave Loading
- Multiple Flights to Cairns from Aurukun in accordance with council policies
- Isolation Leave in accordance with council policy
- Relocation expenses in accordance with council policy
