Your Role:

  • Manage a caseload of families and engage with vulnerable young families in a respectful and culturally sensitive manner, prioritizing their safety, stability, and development.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), Local Area Coordinators (LACs), and Support Coordinators, to identify and address the disability support needs of children and their families.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of families, incorporating both child development and systemic perspectives, to inform evidence-based interventions.
  • Provide parenting support and education, utilizing a range of strategies, including in-home support, role-modeling, and group work, to enhance parents' confidence and capacity to care for their children.
  • Implement family-centered approaches that build on family strengths and support strategies, promoting healthy and positive decision-making and outcomes for children and families.
  • Ensure families have access to accurate and accessible information, enabling them to make informed decisions about their care and wellbeing.
  • Participate in team meetings, staff development, and supervision, contributing to a cohesive and reflective team environment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data and case records, adhering to program guidelines and standards.

About You:

  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to working within the 'Best Interest Principles' outlined in the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, with the ability to collaborate with other professionals in the best interest of the child.
  • Understanding of the social context of child abuse and neglect, combined with the ability to engage with children and families experiencing multiple and complex needs, including disability, family violence, and substance abuse.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive child-focused safety and wellbeing assessments, making sound judgments and taking prescribed actions.
  • Understanding and application of individual and systemic theories, as well as evidence-based approaches, that underpin effective, intensive, in-home family-based interventions.
  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work or a related discipline at degree level, or diploma level with relevant experience in child welfare.
