Job Title: Packing Manager

The Packing Manager oversees daily operations of the retail packing area in a high-volume facility. This includes ensuring accurate, hygienic, efficient, and compliant product packaging.

The role involves managing a team, driving performance, and maintaining high standards of productivity and workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of daily packing operations to meet production schedules.
  • Ensuring products are correctly weighed, sealed, labelled, and packed to customer and regulatory specifications.
  • Monitoring packing efficiency, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
Food Safety & Quality:
  • Maintenance of food safety standards during packing processes.
  • Conducting visual inspections of product and packaging for quality defects.
  • Maintenance of accurate and up-to-date records of packing operations, including traceability documentation and quality checks.
Team Leadership:
  • Supervision, training, and support of packing team members to ensure high performance and adherence to procedures.
  • Management of staff rosters, breaks, and timekeeping to optimize productivity and reduce downtime.
  • Promotion of a positive safety and food safety culture within the packing team.
Inventory & Packaging Supplies:
  • Monitoring usage and stock levels of retail packaging materials and consumables.
  • Coordination with procurement or warehouse teams to ensure timely replenishment of packing supplies.
Compliance & Documentation:
  • Ensure packing documentation is completed correctly (batch records, label verification, traceability logs).
  • Participation in internal and external audits, supporting document retrieval and area readiness.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a food manufacturing environment, preferably in packing or production roles.
  • Prior experience supervising a team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
  • Sound understanding of HACCP, GMP, and food safety compliance.
  • Forklift licence (preferred but not essential).
  • High attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Work Safe Australia's practices for manufacturing environments.
