About the Role

This position focuses on leading the development and evolution of scalable backend systems to support administrative experiences across large, complex enterprises and growing SMBs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement scalable backend systems for admin experiences across various industries.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand multi-team admin needs, identify opportunities for system improvements, and develop solutions that meet these needs.
  • Support the growth of other engineers by sharing knowledge, providing feedback, and promoting a culture of technical excellence.
  • Shape admin user experiences by exploring product ideas, testing technical feasibility, and building solutions that cater to the needs of large-scale organisations.
  • Guide teams through ambiguity, making informed decisions, guiding technical direction, and bringing clarity when the product scope is evolving.
  • Emphasize operational excellence, resolving backend issues, improving observability, and participating in the on-call rotation.
  • Make informed architecture decisions for high-volume, high-data services, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and enterprise-ready.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Operating at Staff or Principal Engineer level with deep expertise in JVM-based languages such as Java or Kotlin.
  • Experience designing and leading backend strategies for large-scale distributed systems, optimized for availability, performance, and reliability.
  • A systems thinker who thrives in ambiguity, using sound judgment to drive clarity, navigate trade-offs, and align cross-functional teams on complex challenges.
  • A technical leader and multiplier, mentoring engineers, raising engineering standards, and championing scalable practices across multiple teams.
  • Seamless collaboration with senior stakeholders, shaping long-term technical direction and influencing product strategy through strong partnerships.
  • Consistently demonstrating disciplined software development, from thoughtful architecture and testing, to documentation and clean code practices.
  • A skilled communicator translating evolving product goals into clear technical strategies and executable milestones.
