The Perfect Fit

Data powers our cutting-edge features, providing seamless experiences for millions of customers from app to branch. We're responsible for CommBank's key analytics capabilities and work towards creating world-leading analytics, information management, and decisioning capabilities.

We collaborate across the Group Data Warehouse, Teradata/mainframe, Big Data Platform, Pega Decisioning, SAS, R, Tableau, Oracle BI, Ab Initio, and Data Stage.

This role would be suitable for an experienced Senior Engineer with a strong background in building ETL applications, along with commendable production support experience in deploying and managing large-scale, complex big data applications on a Cloudera Hadoop platform.

You'll report to the Operations Manager for Data Operations, within the Chief Data Office, interacting with various internal teams and stakeholders, including Program Managers, Data Architects, Lead Software Engineers, Data Engineers, Hadoop Administrators, Systems Engineers, Squad Leads, Staff Engineers, and Change Owners.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong experience in ETL tools suite, scripting in Python, Bash & PowerShell, along with excellent skills in production support.
  • Demonstrated expertise in build, deploy, release management, and containerization of applications on a Cloudera Hadoop or other similar big data platforms.
  • Extensive experience with platform management, operational or production support for complex big data platforms.
  • Excellent skills in Linux/Unix, and exposure to automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible.
  • Ab Initio experience would be ideal but not mandatory.
  • A passion to learn new skills along with a positive 'Can-do' attitude.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with business stakeholders and technical leadership groups.
