Job Title: Head of Learning Area

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and highly engaging Head of Outdoor Education to join our College. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading Outdoor Education strategically and operationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Leadership: Plan, develop, and evaluate current courses offered in Outdoor Education, manage present and future changes in curriculum, assessment, and student needs, and moderate marks and grades across concurrent classes.
  • Camps & Excursions: Conduct activity site reconnaissance and assessment to ensure it meets learning needs and is appropriate for student learning, develop practices to ensure all risks are identified, assessed, and mitigation strategies are put in place, and maintain 'best practice' standards in Outdoor Education operations and procedures.
  • Operational leadership: Assist with advertising, selection, and induction of casual staff for camps and excursions, develop and train OED staff for camps and practical sessions, and demonstrate lessons for staff to improve in-class teaching and learning.
  • Equipment: Develop maintenance schedules and logging of equipment use, and ensure regular maintenance, storage, and replacement of damaged and expired gear.
  • Administration: Prepare annual budget for Outdoor Education and ensure all risk and compliance is managed accordingly, including Consent2 Go.

Selection Criteria:

  • The ability to successfully lead Outdoor Education.
  • The ability to teach upper school Outdoor Education studies general and ATAR.
  • The ability to participate effectively and collaboratively within the current team.
  • Experience in designing and delivering differentiated units of work.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to a fast-paced working environment.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the current Western Australian Curriculum to develop effective learning outcomes for students.
  • High level of organisational and planning skills to support the College's various outdoor education programs.
  • Active participation in extracurricular activities.
  • An awareness and appreciation for the Catholic ethos of the College.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a specific discipline with a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) or Bachelor of Education.
  • Current registration as a teacher with the Teacher Registration Board of WA (TRBWA).
