About the Initiative

Settlement Services International (SSI) is implementing the Home Care Workforce Support Program in NSW and ACT, focused on enhancing community capacity and delivering essential support services to those in need. The initiative aims to expand the nation's home care workforce by 13,000 over the next two years. This program is fully funded by the Australian Government and is part of the Federal Government's response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

SSI is collaborating to arrange training, recruit, and support new workers suited for the industry, enhancing the skills of emerging home care professionals. We are working closely with home care providers to tap into talent from employment services and with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to facilitate training and educational opportunities.

The Role(s)

We offer a variety of roles, all united by a common purpose – they are performed by individuals who genuinely care. SSI's Home Care Workforce Support Services team can assist your journey into the following positions:

Personal Care Worker (PCW)

As a PCW in Individual Support Services, you will utilize your compassion and everyday skills to assist our vital aged care community in meeting their personal needs and achieving their goals with dignity. Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring and communicating client conditions
  • Transportation services
  • Housekeeping and other domestic tasks such as meal preparation
  • Coordinating health programs and wellness-related activities
  • Assisting with overall client care and personal hygiene

Enrolled Nurse (EN)

As an EN in home care, you will provide essential support using your medical expertise and compassion to assist clients in their homes following surgery, injury, or illness. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Pain management
  • Post-operative care
  • Wound management
  • Medication administration and IV therapy
  • Continence care

Allied Health Assistant (AHA)

As an AHA, you can build a rewarding career by applying your foundational health knowledge to assist others through care and development. Allied health assistants provide practical support through exercise programs, communication skills, or training in daily living activities such as cooking.

Typically, you will collaborate with various healthcare professionals (such as occupational therapists and nurses) to provide therapeutic support in a one-on-one setting.

As an AHA, your role will be diverse. In this position, you can expect to undertake tasks such as:

  • Implementing therapy treatment plans
  • Monitoring and reporting changes
  • Providing administrative assistance
  • Compiling patient histories
  • Coordinating health programs
  • Assisting with overall client care
