Senior Legal Counsel Job Description

CPB Contractors is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team in Bowen Hills, Brisbane. As a key member of our legal team, you will provide commercially relevant advice to our teams in the formation, review, and closing of contracts for large-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert legal advice on contract formation, review, and closing for large-scale projects.
  • Draft and develop tender qualifications that address project risks.
  • Support the resolution of contractual issues that arise on projects during delivery.
  • Negotiate contract amendments with clients, joint venture partners, and external lawyers.
  • Identify and report on key/substantial risks from a legal perspective.
  • Propose realistic means of addressing project risks.
  • Prepare proposed solutions to project risks.
  • Draft CRA documents and meet with senior management to review.
  • Advise project teams on contract interpretation and administration issues.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 6+ years of post-qualification experience with a strong focus on front-end construction contracts work.
  • Bachelor of Law (LLB or equivalent).
  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction, holding a current practicing certificate.
  • Exposure to forms of engineering and construction contracts prevalent in the Australian market working for a Tier 1 company is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to identify risks and offer practical solutions to mitigate risks.
  • Strong commercial and business acumen.
