Job Title: Art Program Assistant

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Art Program Assistant to join our team.

The successful candidate will provide critical support to our College programs and activities in Visual Art, ensuring the highest quality educational experience for students from Years 6 to 12.

This role is a key member of our team, responsible for supporting student and staff needs while maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment that aligns with Workplace Health and Safety requirements.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Safeguarding Lutheran Identity
    • Contribute to the growth of a strong Christian faith community through personal example and professional leadership, upholding the Lutheran ethos of our College.
    • Support the development of resources and learning materials that promote a deep understanding of Christian values.
  • Enhancing Excellence in Teaching and Learning
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop engaging lesson plans and resource materials that cater to diverse learning styles.
    • Provide targeted support to students during practical lessons in Visual Art, guiding their learning and fostering a sense of inclusivity and creativity.
    • Ensure the maintenance of facilities, equipment, and resources required to deliver high-quality education in a safe and supportive environment.
    • Assist teachers in preparing demonstrations and hands-on activities, including excursions and events that promote cross-curricular learning.
    • Contribute to the establishment and upkeep of our Pacific Art Gallery, showcasing the artistic talents of our students.
    • Oversee the upkeep of equipment, conducting routine inspections and coordinating repairs or replacements as needed.
    • Prepare and allocate equipment and resources required by teachers for class practicals, ensuring seamless delivery of the curriculum.
    • Work collaboratively with the Head of Department and teachers to develop and update safe operating procedures within the Visual Art department.
  • Promoting Ongoing Improvement and Innovation
    • Engage in ongoing Professional Learning and contribute to the development of innovative approaches to teaching and learning in Visual Art.
    • Stay abreast of emerging industry advancements and apply this knowledge to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes.
    • Collaborate with the Head of Department to evaluate the effectiveness of equipment and propose recommendations for improvements or upgrades.
  • Fostering Community Building
    • Partner with the Head of Department and Visual Art team to support community events, providing assistance and support as needed.
    • Maintain positive relationships with staff, students, parents, carers, and the wider community, promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity.
    • Maintain open lines of communication to address equipment issues, safety concerns, and provide timely updates on maintenance tasks.
  • Leading Effective Organisation and Management
    • Support the Head of Department and other teaching staff to maintain a safe environment for students during practical activities, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
    • Regularly inspect classrooms and galleries to ensure compliance with safety guidelines and protocols.
    • Assist in the ordering of equipment, stocktakes, and record-keeping associated with budgets and resource allocation.
    • Work with the classroom teacher and the Head of Department to monitor the student learning environment for the safe handling of chemicals, equipment, and adherence to safety procedures.
    • Actively promote a culture of safety and assist the Head of Department to develop safety training materials as needed.
    • Be responsible for own health and safety and for the health and safety of persons under their direction, complying with all statutory health and safety rules applying to this position.
    • Undertake other duties as appropriate for this role, maintaining relevant qualifications for this position.
    • Maintain accurate records of incidents and improvement recommendations to the Head of Department.
