Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

Hume City Council is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our OHS team, you will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of our OHS Management System and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our employees and the community we serve.
Key Responsibilities- Support OHS Advisors and OHS Business Partner in the implementation of Council's Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) and OHS Strategy.
- Advise and distribute Occupational Health and Safety information to departments in order to support the effective implementation of the Council's Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).
- Assist with development and maintenance of Hume's Occupational Health and Safety Management System, including the management of online information resources.
- Coordinate the planning, testing, and training related to emergency preparedness.
- Support stakeholders with the planning and scheduling of safety inspections and training.
- Support the OHS team with Occupational Health and Safety performance reporting, including the analysis and reporting of incident and hazard data.
- Review data within the incident and hazard database, including the management of corrective actions, to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).
- Plan and schedule health monitoring programs, encompassing but not limited to:
- Audiometric testing;
- Skin checks.
- Demonstrated experience working in Occupational Health and Safety role in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Emergency management experience desired.
- Understanding of contemporary safety management systems and work health and safety compliance requirements.
- Genuine appreciation and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety within a large local government which provides a broad range of services to our community.
- A current and valid driver's licence.
- Strong customer service focus with proven capability to deliver high quality service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems with minimal supervision.
