Leadership Role in Supervision

The General Manager, Supervision will lead national teams to enable and conduct prudential supervision of industry-specific institutions.

This role imposes supervisory measures on regulated entities within APRA's supervision framework with authority to engage with institutions.

Leadership is required to anticipate, identify, and address strategic industry-specific risks within the APRA mandate and framework.

The Team

This role is part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) reporting to the Executive Director.

Joint accountability exists with other General Managers for leading initiatives in the APRA strategic plan.

Opportunities exist across supervision and specialist teams.

Supervision teams regulate financial institutions within Australia, including banks, superannuation, and insurance organisations.

The specialist team leads data collection and development of key insights for efficient and effective entity supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • People Leadership: Foster an inclusive environment where people can actively contribute and reach their full potential.
  • Strategic Management: Develop and implement business plans supporting APRA's objectives and priorities.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build trusted relationships with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver high-value outcomes.
  • Business/Operational Management: Champion APRA's mission and values, translating them into a risk-based operational approach.
  • Quality Supervision Outcomes: Continuously monitor supervisory activities ensuring compliance with APRA's framework.
  • Financial Management and Resourcing: Manage functions within agreed budgetary constraints and devise resourcing strategies.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in Financial Services sector in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Sound understanding of prudential regulation and financial sector risks.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify strategic issues and develop solutions.
  • Experience in managing complex programs and projects.
  • Ability to engage with senior executives in supervised organisations.
  • Fosters an inclusive environment promoting active contribution and growth.
  • Strong personal integrity and understanding of prudent business practice.
  • Adept at leading in uncertainty and facilitating understanding.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of financial market trends and legislative practices.
