About Metal Fabrication

Metal fabricators specialise in the creation of custom metal products, utilising a range of techniques and tools to shape and assemble metal components. This role involves working on a wide variety of fabrication projects, from reading and interpreting technical drawings to cutting, bending, and assembling metal parts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to inform fabrication decisions.
  • Measure and mark out the size, shape, and location of cutouts and joints on metal stock.
  • Cut, bend, and assemble metal components using fabrication tools and machines (e.g., shears, brakes, grinders, welding equipment).
  • Join metal sections by welding (MIG/TIG/Stick), bolting, or riveting.
  • Examine welds for accuracy, penetration, and finish, performing necessary repairs or reworks.
  • Clean and smooth welds using filing, chiselling, and grinding techniques.
  • Program and/or operate computer-aided fabrication tools to optimise efficiency.
  • Inspect finished products for accuracy and quality compliance.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment in line with WHS practices.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure projects are completed on time.

Requirements

Key requirements for this role include:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Metal Fabricator.
  • Strong knowledge of metal fabrication processes and tools.
  • Proficiency in MIG/TIG/Stick welding techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on quality.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant trade qualifications (preferred).
  • Own tools (advantageous).
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence.
  • White Card.
  • Full working rights in Australia.
