Design Leader

The role of a Design Leader is to lead technical teams in the development and delivery of design solutions for water treatment and facilities projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead project technical teams to deliver design solutions on budget and aligned with project programs.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary inputs from engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Manage design delivery in accordance with project scope and apply change management at the project level.
  • Ensure technical outputs conform to project scope, safety standards and quality.
  • Manage scope changes through established systems and processes.
  • Deliver designs to required quality standards using diverse teams and work within matrix organisational structure.
  • Exercise independent judgement and address complex issues as internal subject matter expert with advanced practical and theoretical knowledge.
  • Collaborate with clients and key stakeholders during development of technical solutions and present outcomes during handovers and project closeout.
  • Plan technical activities, confirm delivery methodology, coordinate technical resources and track progress.
  • Lead preparation and production of technical deliverables, implement review processes and address safety, innovation and sustainability in outputs.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant engineering field.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards.
  • 8 years experience in an engineering consultancy.
  • Leadership abilities including managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater assets and delivery environment.
  • Strong problem solving and negotiation skills to resolve disputes.
  • Solid understanding of D&C or alternative delivery projects.
  • Strong report writing with ability to tell compelling story.
  • Proficiency with Project Management Tools, MS Project, Power BI.
