We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Director to lead our TasWater Capital Delivery Office in Hobart. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for promoting, encouraging, and assisting senior management and project teams in implementing effective commercial practices.

Role Overview

The primary objective of this role is to drive the success of our TasWater Capital Delivery Office by building the capability and capacity of TasWater to deliver an accelerated capital program of works efficiently and effectively. This includes promoting opportunities for people to grow and develop, achieving economic benefits and growth opportunities for local industry, improving safety outcomes, and ensuring a smooth transition of the program back to TasWater post completion.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective commercial strategies to support the delivery of our capital program of works.
  • Lead and manage a team of commercial specialists to ensure compliance with commercial requirements in contracts with customers and major/high-risk subcontracts.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management and project teams on commercial matters, including contract administration, claims, and disputes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to enhance commercial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and procedures related to commercial activities.
Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Law, Commerce, Accounting, Quantity Surveying, Business, or other associated disciplines.
  • Proven track record of success in commercial and contract administration roles, preferably in the construction or engineering industry.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and direct a team of commercial specialists.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interface with senior management, project teams, and external stakeholders.
