Your Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of swimming pools, food businesses, and other establishments to ensure compliance with health and environmental regulations.
  • Respond to enquiries and investigate complaints related to environmental health.
  • Collect and analyze water samples, as well as monitor mosquito populations.
  • Develop and implement education programs to promote health and environmental awareness among the community.

Your Eligibility

  • You must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by descent and identity, recognized by the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • You must be able to successfully enroll in the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) degree at Western Sydney University.
  • You must hold a current Class C Driver's License.

Your Traineeship

  • You will study the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) degree at Western Sydney University through distance part-time and attend workshops.
  • You will receive paid study leave and tutoring.
  • University fees will be paid for all subjects you pass.
  • You will receive structured on-the-job training.
  • You will be part of the Aboriginal Environmental Health Officer trainee network.
  • You will have access to e-learning platforms.

Your Working Environment

  • You will have a commencing annual salary of $56,789, with ongoing progression to $80,511 upon completion of studies, plus 11.5% superannuation.
  • You will work a 35-hour week over a 9-day fortnight.
  • You will have flexible working arrangements under Council's Flex First Procedure, including access to an individualized hours agreement.
  • You will have 2 health and wellbeing leave days for your Christmas break.
  • You will have 3 weeks of sick leave per year, cumulative where unused.
  • You will be eligible for long service leave after 5 years of employment.
