About the Role

Ventia is seeking a skilled and compassionate Custody Officer to join our team in Broome. As a Custody Officer, you will play a vital part in creating a safe and secure environment for detainees, ensuring their welfare needs are met while upholding a professional and respectful demeanor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport and supervise detainees during critical activities.
  • Participate in court activities for security requirements.
  • Manage conflict and communicate with empathy, making a positive impact on the lives of detainees.
  • Value diversity and display a fair and open-minded attitude towards detainees in custody.
  • Provide safety and security for Persons in Custody, staff, employees, and members of the public.
  • Enjoy the variety of performing walking and mobile patrols of a designated area.
  • Be responsible for supervising people in custody, escorting them to appointments or court appearances, and maintaining accurate records.

What We Offer

  • A unique training experience with a fully funded Certificate 3 in Correctional Services.
  • 6 weeks of paid training, equipping you with the necessary skills for this unique role.
  • A pay increase after training, starting at $27.35 during training and increasing to $29.50 post-training.
  • An extra $10,189 per annum as a regional allowance, spread over your fortnightly wage payments.

Requirements

  • Availability to train full time for 6 weeks in Perth.
  • Commitment to a minimum of 12 months to obtain qualifications.
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical, including a drug & alcohol test.
