Job Title: Aboriginal Family Engagement Practitioner

The role of the Aboriginal Family Engagement Practitioner is vital to our team's success in working with Aboriginal families and communities. This practitioner will work closely with an Aboriginal Early Years practitioner and specialist practice leads, fostering strong relationships and empowering families to share their story their way.

  • Linking families with maternity and birth supports, key partners, and stakeholders to provide a wraparound response to address identified needs.
  • Maintaining cultural connections with Aboriginal families and communities through evidence-informed practice approaches.

This position involves applying knowledge of intergenerational trauma, colonization, and other issues affecting Aboriginal families, children, and young people. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of these complex issues and be able to provide support and guidance to families in a culturally respectful and competent manner.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Diploma qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Nursing, or substantial experience in these fields.
  • Well-developed understanding of pregnancy, birth, and infancy, and ability to support families through these stages.
  • Ability to work in a culturally respectful and competent manner with Aboriginal families and communities.
  • Proven experience in collaborative working with other organisations in partnership to achieve mutually agreed outcomes.
