About the Role:
The Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS) is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to fill the newly created position of Director, Governance and Legal. As the largest non-government education system in Australia, MACS employs 16,000 staff and educates over 114,000 students, making it a significant player in the education sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal and commercial advice to the Executive Director and leadership team, ensuring that MACS operates within canonical and civil law, and that its rights are adequately protected.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of legal and professional standards, governance, and information management.
- Operate with a high level of autonomy and provide Company Secretariat services.
- Collaborate with critical stakeholders such as government and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and effective risk management.
Requirements:
- Experience as General Counsel in a large organisation - listed or unlisted.
- Recognised as a collaborative and collegiate professional and executive leader with outstanding legal, commercial, governance, and advisory skills.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and proven judgement.
- Experience in education or related industries.
- Demonstrated effectiveness engaging with critical stakeholders.
