Senior Mental Health Clinician Opportunity

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Senior Mental Health Clinician to join our Far North Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mental health services to individuals and communities in remote locations across Far North Queensland.

About the Role

This is a casual position based in Cairns, with regular travel to remote communities. You will work closely with local people, healthcare providers, and community organizations to provide culturally sensitive and holistic mental health services. Your expertise will be essential in developing and delivering evidence-based clinical interventions, conducting complex assessments, and providing ongoing psychological therapies and counselling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver mental health services to individuals and communities in remote locations
  • Develop and implement culturally sensitive and holistic mental health programs
  • Conduct complex assessments and provide ongoing psychological therapies and counselling
  • Collaborate with local healthcare providers and community organizations to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to service development and improvement
Requirements
  • Registration with AHPRA or membership of the AASW
  • Formal qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Mental Health Nursing
  • Extensive post-graduate experience in a relevant clinical field
  • Demonstrated experience in providing brief interventions and therapeutic counselling to clients of all ages
  • Demonstrated experience and respectful understanding of cultural diversity, including traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander views of health and wellness
