Emergency Department Physiotherapist Role

The primary contact emergency department physiotherapist plays a vital role in delivering high-quality physiotherapy services to patients presenting to the emergency department.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive physiotherapy services to patients, focusing on their needs and experiences
  • Assess and treat patients with complex, comorbid, and social presentations using extensive specialized knowledge and clinical expertise
  • Collaborate with existing medical, nursing, and community teams in the emergency department

To be successful in this role, you will require significant clinical experience in physiotherapy, particularly in the emergency department, as well as substantial experience working with challenging patients with chronic and complex conditions.

You will need to possess excellent negotiation, decision-making, and advocacy skills, as well as the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders throughout all organisational levels.

Key Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification in physiotherapy from an accredited institution
  • Current registration under AHPRA as a general physiotherapist
  • Significant clinical experience in physiotherapy, particularly in the emergency department
  • Extensive post-graduate clinical experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and demonstrated core competency skills in cardiorespiratory, orthopaedic, gerontology, and neurological physiotherapy
  • Demonstrated experience in developing clinical physiotherapy policies and procedures and/or guidelines
  • Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and advocacy skills
  • Ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
