The Opportunity

You'll lead storytelling and messaging for one of our region's most treasured natural assets, Lake Illawarra.

As an Environmental Storyteller, you'll highlight the importance of preserving the lake's natural values and preparing our communities for climate change.

You'll collaborate with teams across the council to deliver engaging campaigns and content that inspire action and build public connection to Lake Illawarra.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop targeted communications plans aligned with environmental priorities.
• Create compelling content for web, social media, and print that brings environmental initiatives to life.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive community participation.
• Support media relations and contribute to the council's broader communications efforts.
• Analyse engagement data and prepare reports to inform strategy and decision-making.

About You

Requirements include:

• Solid experience in communications, engagement, or environmental storytelling.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging messages that resonate with diverse audiences.
• Digital content creation expertise, including photography and video production, to bring environmental initiatives to life.
• Strong interpersonal skills, enabling collaboration effectively across teams and building meaningful relationships.
• Strategic thinking and project management abilities, allowing multiple priorities to be juggled and impactful campaigns delivered.
