The University of Tasmania seeks a Biotechnology Regulatory Specialist to join its Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).

Job Overview

This role is responsible for ensuring that all practices involving gene technology, biosecurity-regulated materials, and biologically hazardous materials are conducted in accordance with legislation, Australian Standards, codes of practice, licensing requirements, and guidelines published under Section 98 of the Gene Technology Act 2000.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exercise independent judgement in relation to proposed dealings;
  • Provide advice, recommendations, and oversight of relevant policies and procedures;
  • Review applications and provide recommendations to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) regarding development and implementation of relevant University policies and procedures.
About Us

The University of Tasmania IBC meets four times per year to consider applications. Committee members are required to prepare for, attend, and participate in meetings either in person or via video conference.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have no ongoing, substantive association with the University. Appointments to the IBC are for a maximum period of three years. We aim to improve gender equity and participation from underrepresented groups.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary, estimated at AU$120,000 - AU$150,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. Successful applicants will be required to sign a Deed of Undertaking acknowledging that they will not disclose confidential information considered by the IBC.
