About Rural Fire Services
We are responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property through effective prevention, preparation, response and recovery activities.
Our department encompasses fire and emergency management services throughout Queensland, providing emergency response to the community.
We are undergoing a significant reform program which will shift our focus to a fire department with a clear emphasis on fire prevention, response and control.
Purpose of the role
This role will lead the planning and delivery of rural fire services, contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation as a whole and driving key priorities.
You will have full responsibility for all operational and financial aspects of your region, managing staffing, resources, systems and processes to achieve effective service delivery.
This position reports to the Chief Officer.
Mandatory requirements
- Experience in rural firefighting; or
- Incident control expertise; or
- Prevention expertise
Your key responsibilities
Your role will involve various responsibilities, including:
Financial
- Lead resource planning processes for your region and manage the delivery of services through best use of resources.
Stakeholder and outcome
- Develop partnerships with Local Government, emergency services agencies and other State Government agencies.
- Establish relationships with unions, local industry and community representatives.
- Provide leadership regarding trends in emergency service delivery and public safety.
- Represent the interests of Rural Fire Services at public forums.
Internal business
- Command incidents and disaster responses.
- Manage industrial relations, human resource and information technology issues.
- Contribute to the development of the strategic direction and future service planning.
Learning and growth
- Provide leadership in risk management: Health, safety and wellbeing of staff.
- Administration of finances and assets.
- Legislative compliance.
- Emergency response plans.
