Renewable Energy Trader Analyst Role

We are seeking an accomplished Renewable Energy Trader Analyst to support trading, origination, and investment functions within our dynamic renewable energy trading platform.

About the Job

This role will focus on market modelling, revenue forecasting, and risk analysis across renewable and storage assets to enable data-driven trading and contracting strategies.

  • Deliver advanced market analysis and simulations to inform trading and origination decisions.
  • Model asset-level revenues across wholesale, arbitrage, and ancillary markets.
  • Provide actionable insights to the trading desk and origination team on pricing, risk, and strategy.
Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting asset-level market simulations (e.g., PLEXOS, custom models) for wind, solar, battery storage, and hybrid assets.
  • Modelling revenues across wholesale arbitrage, ancillary services (e.g., FCAS), and other value streams.
  • Assessing curtailment, negative pricing exposure, and network constraint risks.
  • Forecasting Marginal Loss Factors (MLF) and Distribution Loss Factors (DLF) for project evaluation.
  • Developing site-specific market forecasts and dispatch projections to support project finance, due diligence, and trading strategies.
  • Working closely with origination and trading teams to structure PPAs, hedge strategies, and revenue optimisation cases.
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of market fundamentals, policy changes, and regulatory reforms to assess impact on asset revenues and trading exposures.
  • Contributing commercial analysis and recommendations for investment approvals, deal structuring, and strategy forums.
  • Producing concise market briefings and analytics for senior management, clients, and counterparties.
Requirements & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 3-6 years' experience in energy markets analysis, modelling, or trading analytics.
  • Hands-on experience with market modelling tools (e.g., PLEXOS, BIDSTACK, NEMDE analysis, Python, R, or similar).
  • A strong understanding of wholesale electricity markets, ancillary service markets, and renewable/storage project economics.
  • Experience assessing network constraints, curtailment, and loss factors.
  • A proven track record in providing market insights that support commercial decisions (trading, origination, or investment).
  • Commercial awareness with excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to translate complex market analysis into actionable insights.
  • A degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, or similar; postgraduate degree preferred.
