Supporting Young People in Residential Care

About the Role

The Residential Care Worker is responsible for providing a safe and nurturing environment for young people in residential care. The position works across a 24-hour roster, including day, evening, weekend sleepover, and overnight stand-up work.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To provide daily support to young people, addressing their emotional and functional needs.
  • To develop personal skills and complete administrative requirements and household duties.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • A Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out of Home Care or other similar qualification in Youth Work)
  • Demonstrated experience as a youth worker supporting young people with complex needs.
  • Extensive knowledge of trauma and its effects on young people's development and behaviors.
  • A genuine interest in young people's wellbeing and a non-judgmental attitude towards those in care.
  • Highly developed emotional self-regulation, including setting and maintaining consistent boundaries to ensure safety, stability, and consistency.
