About the Role:

We are seeking an Aboriginal Education Officer to join our team at James Sheahan Catholic High School. This is an identified position available to people of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.

About the Position:

The Aboriginal Education Officer will perform a wide range of duties, including acting as an intermediary and contact person for Aboriginal students and families, supporting schools in ensuring the curriculum is culturally inclusive, and providing encouragement and emotional support for Aboriginal students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as an intermediary and contact person for Aboriginal students and families within the school and school system.
  • Assist the teaching staff in achieving targets and meeting outcomes outlined in school and diocesan strategic plans.
  • Support schools in ensuring the curriculum is culturally inclusive across all Key Learning Areas (KLAs).
  • Provide assistance to the Principal and School Executive in resolving student pastoral care issues for Aboriginal families.
  • Offer encouragement and emotional support for Aboriginal students.

About You:

We are seeking someone with a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the aims and philosophy of Catholic Education, including the values of social justice, equity, and reconciliation. You will also need to have an appropriate level of skill in literacy and numeracy, as well as the ability to work as part of a team to cater for the needs of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander students.
