Role Overview
This is a pivotal position for a skilled Database Administrator to join the Data and Analytics team at Superloop. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, reliability, and optimization of our databases and data transport processes.
Key Responsibilities
As a Database Administrator, you will engage directly with various teams to manage and optimize our database environments. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Database Physical Design, Installation, and Implementation: Overseeing the design and setup of physical databases to meet our business requirements, ensuring optimal index and partition strategies for enhanced performance, and coordinating with development teams to implement database schemas and objects.
- Database Upgrades and Maintenance: Working with developers to perform regular updates and preventative maintenance to ensure the continued performance and robustness of our databases, planning and executing database version upgrades and patching with minimal downtime, and monitoring database environments to pre-emptively identify potential issues and initiate corrective measures.
- Query Performance Monitoring/Tuning and Capacity Planning: Monitoring and optimizing database queries and planning for future database capacity needs, using performance monitoring tools to analyze and optimize queries and indexing, and conducting regular capacity analysis and forecasting to manage growth and resource requirements effectively.
- User Account Maintenance and Access Controls: Managing user/service accounts and ensuring proper access controls and security measures are in place, implementing role-based access controls (RBAC) to manage permissions effectively, and regularly auditing access logs and user activities for compliance and security purposes.
- Backup, Replication, and Recovery Procedures: Developing and administering effective backup and recovery protocols to safeguard data, implementing and maintaining replication strategies for high availability and disaster recovery, and testing and validating backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and rapid recovery in case of failures.
- Implement Long-Term Storage Solutions: Establishing and maintaining long-term data storage solutions to meet regulatory and business requirements, employing data archiving and retention policies to manage storage costs and compliance, and leveraging cloud storage options such as AWS S3 and Glacier for cost-effective long-term storage.
- Troubleshooting and User Support: Providing support and troubleshooting assistance to users to resolve database issues promptly, handling incident management and root cause analysis for database-related issues, and collaborating with application developers and support teams to diagnose and fix performance and functionality issues.
- Data Integration and Transport: Designing robust data integration architectures to efficiently connect various data sources and targets, creating and implementing strategies for data warehousing and data lakes to support analytics and reporting needs, and ensuring data scalability, throughput, and performance by selecting appropriate integration patterns and technologies.
