We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Aquatic Ecologist to join our team at Stantec. As a key member of our Environmental Services group, you will play a critical role in growing our Aquatic Ecology practice in Queensland.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage projects related to marine and freshwater ecology, including experimental design and statistical analyses.
- Develop and implement business growth strategies using your extensive client network, market understanding, and technical knowledge.
- Plan, lead, and implement estuarine, marine, and/or freshwater field studies.
- Deliver high-quality technical reports to clients and participate in proposal and tender production.
- Manage project delivery throughout the project life cycle, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and high-quality results.
- Stay up-to-date with environmental legislation and industry standards, and maintain a deep understanding of current market trends.
- Establish and drive a culture of efficient and effective project delivery within the Aquatic Ecology team.
- Act as a professional mentor to junior staff, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
- Tertiary qualifications in Marine or Freshwater Ecology/Biology, Marine Science, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 10 years' post-graduate experience in Ecology, preferably in a consulting, construction, or regulatory environment.
- Qualifications and experience in scientific diving (or equivalent) and Coxswains certification are desirable.
- Intimate knowledge of key market drivers and services that will propel the growth of these services in Stantec.
- Thorough knowledge of QLD and Federal planning and environment legislation is essential.
- Well-developed fieldwork skills, including leading field teams with specific knowledge in intertidal, subtidal, and offshore survey methods.
- Knowledge of freshwater survey methods, such as electrofishing, AUSRIVAS protocols, and macroinvertebrate identification, is desirable.
- GIS and habitat mapping skills using ArcGIS or similar are highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with broad communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to lead and manage projects and teams to ensure work output is delivered on time and to budget.
