We are seeking a talented PhD scholar to drive innovation in architectural design.

At Monash University, we offer a unique platform for scholars to pursue their passion for research and development. The Future Building Initiative is an interdisciplinary research group within the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture that explores how buildings are designed, developed, and made.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Associate Professor Duncan Maxwell and Dr Camilo Cruz Gambardella in collaboration with JCB Architects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Mapping current architectural design practices within a professional setting
  • Identifying opportunities for AI/ML integration that enhance rather than replace creative decision-making
  • Prototyping and testing digital tools in a real-world practice environment
  • Contributing to both immediate practical improvements and longer-term strategic visions for architectural practice

**Selection Process**

This position has a two-stage selection process. Your proposal should demonstrate your understanding of the practical and theoretical implications of AI in design, as well as your interest in developing innovative approaches to architectural practice.
