We are seeking applications for the 2026 Graduate Midwife Program at Western Health.
Job SummaryThe Graduate Midwife Program is designed to support recent midwifery graduates in their transition from student to registered midwife. The program offers a comprehensive on-boarding plan, regular debriefing sessions and study days, as well as career development pathways and postgraduate study opportunities.
As a graduate midwife, you will work across the continuum of pregnancy care, rotating through various clinical settings and developing your skills and knowledge under the guidance of experienced clinicians.
This program is ideal for those who wish to gain valuable experience and develop their careers in midwifery.
About the RoleThe role of a graduate midwife involves working with pregnant women, new mothers, and their families to provide high-quality, evidence-based care. You will be responsible for assessing and documenting patient needs, implementing risk minimisation strategies, and communicating effectively with colleagues and patients.
This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and document clinical, non-clinical and social needs, identifying at-risk patients and implementing risk minimisation strategies.
- Recognise and respond to changes in patient conditions, escalating care when necessary and documenting variations accordingly.
- Maintain accurate, legible and legally compliant documentation per Western Health policies.
- Communicate patient status effectively during handovers.
- Advocate for patients and families with support.
- Deliver safe, high-quality, evidence-based care.
- Completion of an Undergraduate Midwifery or Undergraduate Double Degree in Midwifery & Nursing in 2025.
- A supportive program completing rotations across the continuum of pregnancy care.
- A comprehensive on-boarding plan, regular debriefing sessions and study days.
- Commencement of career development pathways and postgraduate study opportunities.
- Ongoing employment in Maternity services (part-time or casual).
- Ongoing education and career advancement opportunities.
